Early Childhood Education
Laura Szabo
has been an Early Childhood Educator, working with young children and
their families, for many years. She has a BA in Early Childhood
Education, certification in Neurodevelopment Treatment Techniques, and
is a Child Life Specialist. She has published her first
children’s book, Buddy, the Blue-Tail Bunny.
Her extensive teaching background includes diverse settings: preschool
classroom, infant-toddler child care, home-based programs, and pediatrics at
local hospitals. Laura’s main goal for children with special needs is to
offer a variety of experiences which are often readily available to
“typically developing” children; but are not easily accessed by children
with developmental delays. Her focus is on appropriate play, encouraging
children to explore their environment, using an assortment of toys and
educational materials; and to learn about their surroundings – so they can
function in the world around them. Laura enhances the child’s communication
skills through receptive and expressive speech and language activities. She
supports the child’s parents (and family) in the planning and implementing
of the Early Intervention program. She is an active promoter of literacy
development in children. Laura is an advocate for children’s rights in
health, safety and education.
